I think some of Dick’s madness comes from the constant pain in his eyes, imaginary readers. Although, since he’s used those eyes as a weapon AND his madness kept him from breaking in Hell, it’s probably a fair trade off.
Either way, I did attempt to illustrate that by having the voices in his head become less talkative when his eyes were extinguished.
