I’ve really never understood The Odyssey. It reads like a tragedy, because poor Odysseus just wants to fucking get home, and THE GODS THEMSELVES are determined to stop him. I mean, this is a truly unfortunate man, and the most uplifting part of the story is when he kills everybody. What? What? WHAT?
Anywho. Sorry for the interlude. The storyline will continue tomorrow.
EDIT: Turns out The Odyssey is an epic, which is a separate category entirely from comedy and tragedy. I doubt Yont knows that, though. He’s smart, but not exactly a literary genius.
It’s not a comedy nor a tragedy, it’s an epic. You got three distinct classical genres right there. Also, comedies and tragedies were meant to be acted, while epics were meant to be sung.
Oh, that’s interesting. It also makes sense, to my own embarrassment. My high school English teacher had called it a comedy, so I guess I can use ignorance as a defense.
